LOCAL
NUMBER PORTABILITY OR LNP
Beginning
on November 24, 2003, many wireless subscribers will be able
to keep their existing mobile telephone number when they
switch wireless service providers. This ability, known as
telephone number portability or local number portability (LNP),
is being implemented by the Federal Communications
Commission (FCC) under the direction of Congress.
As
an informed consumer, you should be aware of unanticipated
outcomes and potential new expenses such as high penalties
for early termination of your contract. Also, contracts that
include discounted phones may require a longer commitment.
As always, make sure you read through your entire contract
when buying any wireless phone and service.
